Former police chief charged with forcible rape

William Chad Green, 51, a former North Carolina police chief, was arrested on April 5, 2026, and charged with second-degree forcible rape. According to an arrest warrant, Green is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl on or around April 4, 2026. The warrant further alleges that the intercourse was committed by force and against the victim’s will, specifically noting she may have been “mentally incapacitated or physically helpless” at the time.

Green has a significant history in local law enforcement, having served as the Chief of Police for Norwood, North Carolina, from August 2014 to June 2015. His career in the area also included a stint as a police officer in Norwood from 2008 to 2010 and prior service with the Oakboro Police Department. Local officials and agencies, including the Town of Norwood, have confirmed these previous roles following his arrest.

Following his booking at the Stanly County Jail, Green was initially held without bond. However, a judge later set his secured bond at $500,000. As part of his release conditions, he has been ordered to have no contact with the victim. Green was scheduled to make his first court appearance on April 13, 2026, as the investigation by the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office remains ongoing.
