Junior Bishop, a 15-year-old from Hastings, Florida, is facing life in prison after being charged as an adult in a harrowing kidnapping and torture case. Prosecutors allege that Bishop acted as a co-conspirator with 60-year-old Darnell Hairston, a registered sex offender, to abduct an 11-year-old boy in December 2025. The state claims Bishop helped lure the victim to a rural campsite behind Hairston’s home, where the child was allegedly held for three days, hog-tied, beaten, and forced to ingest drugs and alcohol.
The motive behind the abduction was reportedly an attempt to silence the victim. Authorities believe Hairston feared the 11-year-old possessed information—specifically shared within a Snapchat group—that would expose him as a predator and lead to his arrest. For his primary role in this plot, Bishop has been charged with armed kidnapping. At the time of the incident, Bishop was already on probation for a prior violent offense, which has intensified the legal scrutiny surrounding his case.
The victim was eventually rescued following a violent confrontation with police on New Year’s Eve. During a traffic stop involving Hairston, Bishop reportedly jumped into the driver’s seat of Hairston’s truck and led deputies on a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when Bishop drove into oncoming traffic and intentionally rammed a patrol car, causing both vehicles to flip. This incident added several first-degree felonies to his record, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding.
Bishop is currently held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail. In recent court appearances, he has expressed confusion over his legal status and has requested a mental health evaluation. He informed the court that medical professionals at a previous facility suggested he might be incompetent to stand trial, a claim that could significantly impact the trajectory of his case as it moves toward a potential trial.
