Birdsong Jr., 62, and his wife, Amanda L. Birdsong, 43. The suspected gunman, identified as Walter’s 56-year-old brother, Kurt Tyler Birdsong, was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a multi-hour standoff with law enforcement.
The violence reportedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute over family land that escalated into gunfire shortly before 4:00 p.m.. Investigators from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office noted that the family was well-known in the community for their firearms-related business, W.E. Birdsong & Associates.
