Hours after freed on bond

Jessica Nicole Henderson, 40, died on May 9, 2026, following a domestic violence shooting in downtown Des Moines, which occurred just six hours after her ex-boyfriend, Abdul Jabbar Jackson, was released on bond. Jackson, who had been arrested for first-degree harassment after threatening Henderson and placing a GPS tracker on her car, killed Henderson and her dog before dying by suicide.

Following the incident, Henderson’s family urged for greater awareness of domestic violence warning signs and the dangers of escalating threats involving firearms. Jackson had been released from the Polk County Jail on the afternoon of May 8, 2026, before committing the shooting on Tuttle Street.
