Benson police officer charged with rape

Former Benson police officer Peter Alphonso Blake, 33, was arrested on April 22, 2026, following a North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) probe into allegations of a violent home invasion and sexual assault. Blake, who had been with the Benson Police Department since August 2025, was immediately terminated from his position upon his arrest. The charges against him include first-degree forcible rape, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and involuntary sexual servitude.

The incident reportedly occurred on the night of April 8, 2026, at a residence on South Whittington Street. Court warrants allege that Blake broke into the home, forcibly confined a victim aged 16 or older, and subjected them to sexual assault and servitude. Benson Police Chief Greg Percy initiated the investigation after receiving the initial reports, quickly involving the Johnston County District Attorney and the SBI to ensure an independent inquiry into the officer’s conduct.

During his initial court appearance, a judge set Blake’s bond at $5 million, citing the severity of the charges. As part of his release conditions, he was ordered to surrender his passport and is strictly prohibited from contacting the victim or any former colleagues at the Benson or Raleigh police departments. Before his tenure in Benson, Blake served as an officer with the Raleigh Police Department for about a year before resigning in 2023.

The SBI and local authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if there are additional victims. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with further information or potential related grievances to come forward. Blake remains in custody at the Johnston County Detention Center as the legal process moves toward a grand jury hearing.
