Mother Charged with Murder of Two Children

A tragic discovery was made in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where two young children, Kai (7) and Ella (6), were found dead inside their family home on Edgemoor Avenue. The investigation began when police conducted a wellness check on Friday night at the request of authorities in Vermont. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the deceased siblings, both of whom were students at the nearby Schofield Elementary School.

The children’s mother, 49-year-old Janette MacAusland, was arrested shortly after in Vermont and has been charged with two counts of murder. She is currently being held as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts to face formal arraignment in Norfolk Superior Court. Investigators have noted that the family was involved in an ongoing divorce and custody dispute at the time of the incident.

The local community and school district have expressed profound shock, as neighbors described the family as appearing active and well-cared for. In response to the tragedy, the Wellesley Public School System has mobilized counseling services for students and staff returning to school on Monday. While the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate the specific circumstances of the deaths, they have assured the public that there is no further threat to the community.
