Tarrant County judge found Christantus Omondi not guilty by reason of insanity

In April 2026, a Tarrant County judge ruled that Christantus Omondi was not guilty by reason of insanity for the January 2024 killing of a firewood delivery driver in Fort Worth, Texas. The decision followed a mental health evaluation that was accepted by both the prosecution and the defense, confirming that Omondi was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and did not understand that his actions were wrong at the time of the attack.

The incident occurred on January 13, 2024, when 51-year-old Scotty Jackson was delivering firewood to a home. Omondi, who was 27 at the time and completely naked, approached Jackson and the homeowner, shouting that they were on his property. He then picked up a piece of the firewood and beat Jackson to death before chasing the homeowner and assaulting him as well. Omondi then fled to a nearby Airbnb where he had been staying and reportedly attempted to attack another resident.

When Fort Worth police arrived, they found Omondi naked, aggressive, and non-compliant. Officers had to use a Taser to take him into custody. During the subsequent investigation and legal proceedings, it was determined that Omondi’s mental state at the time met the legal definition of insanity. Following the judge’s ruling, Omondi was ordered to be committed to a state mental health facility for treatment, where he will remain until he is no longer deemed a danger to himself or others.
