Familicide

On May 8, 2026, authorities in Buncombe County, North Carolina, charged Star Grant, 16, and Devan O’Neil Loving, 28, with three counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy to commit murder. The charges follow the discovery of three victims—Travis Eugene Grant, 41; Kimberly Michelle Grant, 42; and Sharon Harwood Grant, 66—who were found shot to death inside a home on Ashworth Drive in Fairview. Star Grant is the daughter of Travis and Kimberly and the granddaughter of Sharon.

The investigation began on the evening of Thursday, May 7, when deputies responded to a welfare check at the residence and discovered the bodies. During the initial search, detectives found that Star Grant, who lived at the home, was missing and unaccounted for. Authorities eventually tracked her to a hotel on Ownby Street in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where she was found early Friday morning in the company of Loving.

Following their apprehension, both suspects were interviewed by Buncombe County detectives in Tennessee, leading to the formal murder charges. Due to the severity of the case, officials confirmed that Star Grant will be charged as an adult. Both Grant and Loving are currently awaiting extradition hearings in Tennessee before being transported back to North Carolina to face trial.

While the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has not yet disclosed a potential motive or the specific nature of the relationship between the two suspects, they have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are continuing to assist in the active investigation.
