Miguel Rodriguez-Rolon sentenced for 2025 rape and kidnapping of an 87-year-old woman

In April 2026, Miguel Rodriguez-Rolon, a 29-year-old Columbus resident, received a sentence of 84 to 89.5 years in prison for a violent home invasion and sexual assault. A jury found him guilty of multiple first-degree felonies, including two counts of rape, one count of kidnapping, and one count of aggravated burglary. Beyond his lengthy prison term, Rodriguez-Rolon was designated as a Tier III sex offender, the most severe registration level in Ohio, and labeled a violent offender.

The conviction stems from a January 2025 incident in the Eastmoor neighborhood, where Rodriguez-Rolon broke into the home of an 87-year-old woman. The victim, who was asleep on her couch, woke up to find a stranger in a ski mask standing over her; she was subsequently raped, tied up on her kitchen floor for three hours, and had her car stolen. Investigators linked him to the crime after discovering a thumbprint on a disinfectant wipes bottle at the scene and noted that he lived less than 500 feet from the victim’s residence.

During the sentencing, Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Chris Brown characterized Rodriguez-Rolon’s actions as “completely evil,” calling the case the “nightmare every woman fears”. This was not his first serious offense; Rodriguez-Rolon was already a convicted felon, having served prior prison time for a 2017 conviction involving robbery and grand theft. Family members noted the victim’s bravery during the trial, as she used a walker to reach the stand and testify about the traumatic assault.
