An infant girl was stabbed to death inside a home in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood early Friday morning, May 15, 2026. The Chicago Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. in the 3000 block of West 59th Street. The victim, identified as one-month-old Nyhnia Stovall, suffered a stab wound to the chest and was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Following the attack, the suspect—described by authorities as a “known offender”—attempted to flee the scene by jumping from an upper-level window of the residence. The suspect sustained injuries from the fall and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they are listed in stable condition. Area Central detectives recovered a knife at the scene, and the suspect remains hospitalized under police custody with charges pending.
While a specific motive has not been released, authorities have classified the fatal stabbing as a domestic-related incident. Neighbors reported seeing police safely escort two other young children out of the home immediately following the tragedy. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the violence.
